Fairy Tale Homophones is an activity I designed while taking a summer workshop course called "Making Reading Games" at Youngstown State University in 1996.
Students are given sentences about familiar fairy tales in which homophone are incorrectly used. They must correctly write each sentence, substituting the proper homophones.
I printed each sentence in a large sized font on colorful paper, then glued the sentences to heavy card stock. On the back of the card, I wrote the correctly written sentence. I designed the activity to use as a whole class drill; however, I also used it as a learning center because of its self-checking quality.
