JEFFERSON COUNTY EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS COMMITTEE
REPORT OF CHURCHES

Approximately 79 surveys were mailed or hand-delivered to Jefferson County churches. 5 were returned by the Post Office and 18 completed surveys were received.

FOOD/WATER AFFIRMATIVE ANSWERS
Do you have space and would you be willing to store food? 7
Do you have cooking facilities for meal preparation? 13
Do you have non-electric fuel/power source? 2
Do you have non-electric water source? 4

 
SHELTER AFFIRMATIVE ANSWERS
Do you have housing space? 11
How many people? 500
Number of bathrooms? 41
Non-electric water source for flushing? 4
Do you have showers? 3
Are any members trained in Red Cross sheltering procedures? 3
Any other assets that would help during an emergency? Almost all answered that they had plenty of caring members with willing hands.

MEDICAL

Does your church have emergency medical personnel and/or equipment?

   8 churches said yes but we must remember that active health care/emergency personnel will be called to be on duty automatically in any emergency.

COMMUNICATIONS

What alternative communication devices does your church have?

    1 answered that they had a CB
    Cell phones(?)

SPECIAL NEEDS

Do you have plans to care for your own elderly/infirm?

    1 answered yes

Do you have ways to transport people to shelters/hospitals?

    3 have church vans, all are counting on member cars, 4WD, etc.

OTHER

Neighbor helping neighbor, willing hands, loving hearts, congregational networking, generous spirits, PRAYERS.

Most of the responding churches realize that they have not really thought about having an actual plan of action in place and indicate that this effort is providing a lot of food for thought.
