Switch

Switch
Trainer Text: Switch 1 of your Benched Pokemon with your Acive Pokemon.
Recommendation: Use this card when you have a Pokemon that has a high Retreat Cost, is Paralyzed, or is Confused. This gives it a second chance later on.

Potion

Potion
Trainer Text: Remove up to 2 damage counters from 1 of your Pokemon.
Recommendation: This is a must in all decks. Damage counter removal is one of the most important necessities to survival in the game. This is a Healing Item.

Energy Removal

Energy Removal
Trainer Text: Choose 1 Energy card attached to 1 of your opponent's Pokemon and discard it.
Recommendation: Use this card when your opponent is running low on Energy cards or when he is powering up a Pokemon that is sure to KO you. Watch out for No Removal Gym.

Full Heal

Full Heal
Trainer Text: Your Active Pokemon is no longer Asleep, Confused, Paralyzed, or Poisoned.
Recommendation: This is a great card if you want to use a Sleeping or Paralyzed Pokemon. Poison whittles down your health, so you can either switch or use this card to cancel it out. I call this a Status Item.

Pokemon Center

Pokemon Center
Trainer Text: Remove all damage counters from all of your own Pokemon with damage counters on them, then discard all Energy cards attached to those Pokemon.
Recommendation: Bad card. This takes off all Energy cards that are on the Pokemon you worked so hard to get powered. You're better of using Potion, Super Potion, etc. This is another Healing Item.

Pokemon Flute

Pokemon Flute
Trainer Text: Choose 1 Basic Pokemon card from your opponent's discard pile and put it onto his or her Bench. (You can't play Pokemon Flute if your opponent's Bench is full.)
Recommendation: Uh, what is the good side to this card? It brings another Pokemon that he could use into the play area, and who knows? He or she may already have an evolution card for it in his or her hand. Skip this card.

Gust of Wind

Gust of Wind
Trainer Text: Choose 1 of your opponent's Benched Pokemon and switch it with his or her Active Pokemon.
Recommendation: This is great if you want to quickly KO a weaker Pokemon while not dealing with the powered up one.

Imposter Professor Oak

Imposter Professor Oak
Trainer Text: Your opponent shuffles his or her hand into his or her deck, then draws 7 cards.
Recommendation: This is more of a collector card than a playable card. It is like a reverse Professor Elm, only they can play Trainer cards. Skip this card.

Super Energy Removal

Super Energy Removal
Trainer Text: Discard 1 Energy card attached to 1 of your own Pokemon in order to choose 1 of your opponent's Pokemon and up to 2 Energy cards attached to it. Discard those Energy cards.
Recommendation: This is a better card than ER because it takes your opponent an extra turn to recover from it, and it only takes 1 turn for you to recover. Watch out for No Removal Gym.

Super Potion

Super Potion
Trainer Text: Discard 1 Energy card attached to 1 of your own Pokemon in order to remove up to 4 damage counters form that Pokemon.
Recommendation: Another must for many decks. Even though you have to remove an Energy card, it can buy a max of 4 turns before you'd have to use it again. This is the third Healing Item in Base Set.

Energy Retrieval

Energy Retrieval
Trainer Text: Trade 1 of the other cards in your hand for up to 2 basic Energy cards from your discard pile.
Recommendation: This is good if you don't get the Energies you need in your deck, and if you discard those Energies a lot. Get them back with this card so you can use it again. This card has become a bit obsolete because of the new Ecogym.

Defender

Defender
Trainer Text: Attach Defender to 1 of your Pokemon. At the end of your opponent's next turn, discard Defender. Damage done to that Pokemon by attacks is reduced by 20 (after applying Weakness and Resistance).
Recommendation: Defender is used to stop strong attacks from doing as much damage as would be hoped by the opponent. This can be foiled by him or her not attacking. This was one of the first Pokemon Tools, which they classified later.

Item Finder

Item Finder
Trainer Text: Discard 2 of the other cards from your hand in order to put a Trainer card from your discard pile into your hand.
Recommendation: This is one of the only cards that can get a Trainer card from the discard pile. What is sad is that you have to discard 2 other cards. I could understand if it was one card, but 2? Use this only if you really need one of those Trainers.

Revive

Revive
Trainer Text: Put 1 Basic Pokemon card from your discard pile onto your Bench. Put damage counters on that Pokemon equal to half its HP (rounded down to the nearest 10). (You can't play Revive if your Bench is full.)
Recommendation: This card does exactly what it does in the video game. Bringing a Pokemon back is a good idea if all 4 Basics have been KO'd. Then you can evolve it easily.

Computer Search

Computer Search
Trainer Text: Discard 2 of the other cards from your hand in order to search your deck for any card and put it into your hand. Shuffle your deck afterward.
Recommendation: You have a chance with this card. Discard 2 of your more worthless cards to get a better card, like an Evolution or a very needed Trainer card.

Professor Oak

Professor Oak
Trainer Text: Discard your hand, then draw 7 cards.
Recommendation: This card is OK, but I wouldn't use it that much. If you have to discard your hand that means you'll probably run out of cards sooner. I'd rather sacrifice my Trainer cards with Professor Elm and put them back in my deck.

Pokedex

Pokedex
Trainer Text: Look at up to 5 cards from the top of your deck and rearrange them as you like.
Recommendation: Use this card first before you use a Bill or Teleporter so you can get the cards you really need right away.
