We are a Civil War reenactment group based in Erie, Pennsylvania.Wiedrich Battery I was organized in 1995 to educate and promote the Civil War experience in the Erie area through reenactments, school programs, demonstrations, public and private events. We are the only Erie area Non-Profit Civil War Artillery Battery.Recruited by Capt. Michael Wiedrich, under the authority from the war department, dated July 30, 1861, principally at Buffalo, Lancaster, Amherst, Elmira and Erie County. This regiment was mustered in the service of the United States at Buffalo, October 1, 1861. A large number of its men were from the 65th Militia. Principally of German descent, they served in several theaters during the war and participated in many battles. They served with great distinction at Gettysburg.
Wiedrich Battery I Inc. is a charter member of the Erie Area Civil War Consortium which is a byproduct of the Strong Vincent Commemorative Committee which is a sub-committe of the Erie Bi-Centennial Committee. Also an active member of the Erie Civil War Round Table,The Erie County Historical Society and the Fort LeBoeuf Historical Society. We also belong to the National Civil War Artillery Association and the Living History Association.

We welcome civilians as well as military impressionists in our family oriented group.
