HOW
WE
WORK
Yeah, we intend to release a CD someday. At our current recording rate, the disc will be out around the year 2000! (We're averaging 2 songs recorded per year.. a rate that we hope to increase in the future.) Recording is just a hobby for us. We have many songs written, but we only get together to rehearse when the muse (and circumstance) dictates. Recording original music gives us a break from the commercial, mainstream junk that the record companies try to shove down our throats.
Rant:
Let's face it, the music of today sucks for the most part. The record companies are to blame. If you're a musician and you want to get a major record deal with strong marketing support, you have to play the same old crap, have the 'in' look, etc. Your songs have to be formatted for radio, which means 3.5 minutes, verse-chorus-verse-chorus, you get the idea. No room for originality here.
Think how many great bands you'd never hear if they came out today.. just because they're unlike the mainstream stuff, and/or write longer songs. Bands like Led Zep, Jethro Tull, Pink Floyd, The Who.. they were all markedly different from the mainstream. Back then, it made you interesting. These days, it makes you an unworthwhile risk. Yeah, sure, the record companies will say "but this is what SELLS!" Well no shit, Sherlock! If that's all people ever hear on the radio, they don't know what else there is to buy!
:End Rant
When we started Lost Frontier, our goal was to write 'honest music'. Our rule of thumb is: you should be able to play a good song around a campfire and still have it sound decent. That means that we focus on the essential aspects of the music.. memorable melody, smooth rhythm, coherent lyrics (most of the time). The songs aren't dependent on 45 tracks of guitars, keyboards, and other textures. Just straightforward songwriting.. that's what we believe in, that's what we do.
So far, we've had some fantastic feedback from all over the world. Our thanks to the many wonderful people who have left comments (good or bad) via our feedback form. Opinions have ranged from "You Suck!" to "You Rule!" so hopefully we're somwhere in between! We've had visitors from the USA, UK, Finland, Sweden, Singapore, Canada, Mexico, France, Denmark, and many other places that I can't remember off the top of my head.
