GENERAL RULES FOR CHESTNUT RIDGE LEAGUE

WINTER 1999-2000

  1. A swimmer may enter three individual events and two relays for dual meets and the championship meet. The Open 200 Free will count as an individual event towards a swimmer's allowed total of three individual events per meet.
  2. One false start is allowed per swimmer. Starter is responsible for calling false starts. Each team must provide a recall rope. No one is to jump into the water to stop a swimmer when a false start has been called.
  3. The "track" start is allowed.
  4. All swimmers swim in their own age group as of the day of the meet. However a swimmer may swim in an older age group, but not in a younger age group. Once a swimmer enters a meet in an age group, he/she must continue in that age group for the duration of the meet.
  5. Meets should be canceled 24 hours in advance unless inclement weather necessitates canceling within that 24 hour period. It is up to the individual teams to reschedule a canceled meet as soon as possible. If a meet is canceled within that 24 hour period, the team that did not originally cancel may hold a time trial and use those times, counting it as a meet towards the number of meets needed to quality for the championship meet.
  6. There must be one stroke judge from each team at every meet- Both home and visiting teams are also responsible for three timers, three place judges and one scorekeeper. Home team will provide a back-up timer.
  7. Scoring will be 6-4-3-2-1-0 for individual events. Relays will be scored 8-4-2. Relays will be scored as follows: If team A has no relays, team B can be awarded the points for 1st place; if team A has one relay, team B can be awarded the points for 1st and 2nd place; if team A has two relays, team B can be awarded the points for two places. No team can sweep ( 1st, 2nd and 3rd places) a relay.
  8. The visiting team will judge places 1,3 and 5 and will swim in lanes 1, 3 and 5. The home team will judge places 2, 4 and 6 and will swim in lanes 2, 4 and 6. First place judge has precedent when calling the winner of each race-all other judges must then follow in order. Judges are not to ask for a swimmer's time from the timer in order to determine the race. (i.e., first place judge calls the first place swimmer, second place judge calls the second place swimmer, etc.) Place judges are to judge from the side of the pool, not behind the blocks. Judges can call ties. In the event of a tie, the score for the two places in question are added together and divided by two. (i.e., 1st place and 2nd place ties-1st place is scored 6 points, 2nd place is scored 4 points, total to 10 points, each swimmer receives 5 points.) If the 1st place judge determines that the race was too close to call, he/she may use the automatic timing system (if available) to determine the 1st place winner. All other judges will then follow in order when calling the subsequent places.
  9. Ribbons awarded at dual meets for the first heats of each event will be presented to places I through 6. A heat winner ribbon will be awarded to the first place swimmer along with place ribbons to the other swimmers for the subsequent heats. If a swimmer is disqualified, a participation ribbon (optional) will be awarded. There is a suggested limit of three heats per event. If needed, both coaches at the dual meets must agree to increase this limit. Swimmers can swim as exhibition only if there is an open lane.
  10. Ordering ribbons will be the responsibility of the individual team
  11. All teams committing to join the Chestnut Ridge League and participate in any dual meets will be responsible for their share of the cost of the trophies for the Championship Meet even if they do not send any swimmers to the Championship Meet open lane.
  12. A check for the Championship Meet will be made out to the team hosting the meet.
  13. At the Championship Meet, trophies will be awarded to 1st, 2nd and 3rd places. Medals will be given for 4th, 5th and 6th places. Ribbons will be given to 7th, 8th and 9th places. For relays, medals will be awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places and ribbons for 4th, 5th and 6th places. If available, heat awards will be given for all heats. At the least, heat awards will be given to all heats except for the final (fastest) heat.
  14. Points for the Championship Meet will be as follows: Individual event's points will be 10-8-7-6-54-3-2-l, relays will be 14-10-8-6-4-2. Each team will receive awards for 1st through 6th places that their relays finish. However, no team will receive the points for more than one relay's place per event. Therefore, the teams will receive the points corresponding to the highest place their relays earned. If you receive awards for other places, those points will be blocked and not given to any other team.
  15. Championship Meet:
  1. Team trophies will be given for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places; participation plaques to the remaining teams.
  2. Score will be kept according to rule #14.
  3. Swimmers must participate in five dual meets if they are registered in a combined fall/winter session or three dual meets if they are registered only in the winter session to qualify for the Championship Meet.
  4. Each team will be responsible for six timers (three for the morning session and three for the afternoon session) and two stroke judges. If a team does not have the necessary workers available within their membership, they will be responsible for hiring the needed officials and providing their workers' names along with their entries for the championship meet. If a team does not provide the required timers and stroke judges, that team will be denied the privilege of competing at the championship meet.
  5. Each swimmer may enter three individual events and two relays.
  6. Open relays.
