Special Projects

This page catalogs some of the projects I've worked on in an artist-at-large capacity. The plan is to expand this to include photographs of lamps and lampshades, painted furniture, logos for small companies and props created for window display. Any comments are welcome, and please feel free to contact me with any questions you might have about the work you see here.

These six paper mache'heads were used in a window display for LS Altman's at the Galleria mall in Pittsburgh. Unfortunately, I didn't have the opportunity to photograph them in place.

Salvaging Something, Viaduct Studio and Space 101 at the Brewhouse

This piece was included in "The Painted Phrase", an evening of performances produced by Sun Crumbs. It was held at Viaduct Studio in May of 1998. A more elaborate version was produced for the "Steel" show at Space 101, in August of 1998. Lisa Stolarski wrote the poetry, and I produced the props. During both performances, I produced 3' x 6' drawings. Each performance lasted 15 minutes and 25 minutes respectively.

June 19th 1999, at the Andy Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

This piece was developed  in conjunction with the exhibit The Architecture of Reassurance: Designing the Disney Theme Park at the Andy Warhol Museum. It was a collaborative effort with Christiane Leach, a very fine artist and musician. She is also the Executive Director for Sun Crumbs, a non profit artists advocacy organization. The paper used was nine feet wide. Each Horse was made from two squares, nine feet on each side. I have been folding Origami models for a few years now. This is the first time I've had an opportunity to take it to this kind of application. The Warhol Museum should be commended for their outstanding artist and community outreach programs. If you are ever in Pittsburgh, be sure to stop at the Warhol Museum, as well as The Mattress Factory and, well, the list is pretty long for all the great museums here! I have some of my favorite Pittsburgh links on my links page. Be sure to pay a visit there!

Day of the Dead, October 29th 1999, at the Andy Warhol Museum

The Day of the Dead is a celebration of South American origin. I have included a link to an excellent site on my links page that will give a more complete idea of the history and significance of this paricular festival. This piece was performed with Christiane Leach, at the Andy Warhol Museum. It was wonderful to do something as riotous and ribald as this piece in the setting of a museum. We elaborated on the altar and danced with an inflatable skeleton. Chris is a marvelous artist. I've enjoyed collaborating with her on these performances.
