Fremont Journal 15 Feb 1889 - Death of Mrs. S. A. June.
nkb
Mrs. S. A. June died at the home of a brother in Maquoketa,
Iowa, at 1:30 o'clock Monday morning. The announcement was a painful surprise
to the relatives and friends in Fremont, few of the friends knowing of
her sickness and many not being aware she was absent from the city. Mrs.
June went to Maquoketa on Saturday, February 2d, upon the receipt of a
telegram announcing the dangerous illness with typhoid fever of her brother,
Thomas
E. Cannell. On Wednesday of last week she was taken with pneumonia
and died Monday morning.
Mrs. June was born in Newburg, Cuyahoga
county, Ohio, December 29, 1828. Her maiden name was Jane J. Cannell. She
was married to Sayles A. JUNE August 17,
1854. They came to Fremont in 1866 and ever afterwards resided here. She
was the mother of three children, one of whom died in infancy, while Adelaide,
wife
of Wm. Waugh, Montreal, Canada, and Peter
J. June, survive. Mrs. June's mother, Mrs. Jane
Cannell, lived with her and is nearly 89 years of age. Three brothers,
Charles
of Titusville, Pa., Thomas E. of Maquoketa,
Iowa, Eli W. Cannell of Cleveland,
and two sisters, Mrs. Louise E. Jenkins
of Cleveland, and Mrs. George June of
Fremont, are living, and all were present at the funeral with the exception
of Thomas who is still lying very low.
The remains were brought to this city
and the funeral was from the Presbyterian Church yesterday afternoon. A
large concourse of friends attended to pay their last tribute of respect
to the dead. Mrs. June had long been a member of the Presbyterian Church.
She was an earnest Christian, a large-hearted, gentle woman, devoted to
her family and friends and beloved by all who knew her. The bereaved husband
and children, the aged mother, brothers and sister[s] have the sympathy
of all in their affliction. [transcribed from photocopy 08 Mar 03 tcd]
