In the name of God Amen. The fifth day of August one thousand eight
hundred and sixty two.
I Robert Quiggin of East Baldwin Braddan,
farmer, being sick and weak of
body but of perfect mind and memory, thanks be given unto God: therefore
calling unto mind the mortality of the body knowing that it is appointed
unto all men once to die; do make and ordain this my last will and
testament; that is to say principally and first of all; I give and
recommend my soul into the hands of Almighty God that gave it and my
body
I recommend to the earth to be buried in decent christian burial at
the
discretion of my executors; nothing doubting, but at the general
resurrection I shall receive the same again by the Almighty power of
God.
And as touching such worldly estate wherewith it hath pleased God to
bless me in this life. I give devise and dispose of the same in the
following manner and form.
First I give and bequeath to Margaret,
my dearly beloved wife, all my
household goods debts and moveable effects.
Also I give and bequeath to her while she lives in my name or remain
unmarried all and singular my lands messuages and senements but in
case
she marries again then my well beloved son Robert
Cain is to have and
possess my said lands messuages and senements.
Also I give and bequeath to my well beloved son Thomas
Edmund the sum of
twenty pounds of lawful money of England to be raised and levied out
of
my estate and that he be taught a trade and that the expences connected
therewith be deducted out of his legacy of twenty pounds and if an
remain
the remainder be paid to him by my executrix herein after mentioned
when
he becomes twenty one years old.
Also I give and bequeath to my well beloved daughters Margaret
Matilda;
Mary Ann; and Eda
Jane, the sum of ten pounds each of lawful money of
England to be raised and levied out of my estate and paid to each of
them
by my executrix on the day each of them will become twenty one years
old.
Also I constitute make and ordain Margaret
my
dearly beloved wife my sole
executrix of this my last will and testament. And I do hereby utterly
disallow revoke and disannul all and every former testaments, wills,
legacies, bequest, and executors, by me in any ways before named, willed
and bequeathed; ratifying and confirming this and no other to be my
last
will and testament. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand
and
mark this sixth day of August one thousand eight hundred and sixty
two.

At a Chapter Court held at Douglas on the 16th
day of April 1869,

Whereas the Ecclesiastical Court of the Isle and Diocese of Sodor
and Mann hath this day
granted Probate of the Will of Robert Quiggin
late of Braddan dec'd to Margaret
Quiggin
And whereas William Johnof
Ballagarey
in the Parish of Braddan and Thomas Cain
of [Ballavaish] in the Parish of German
have agreed to become pledges for the due and faitful Administration
of the said Estate by the said
Margaret Quiggin according
to law.
Now, know all Men by these Presents, that we, the said John
William
Cain and Thomas Cain hereby bind and
pledge ourselves, jointly and severally, and our Heirs, Executors,
and Administrators, firmly by these
presents, as pledges for the said Margaret
Quiggin
that she shall well and truly administer all and singular,
the Personal Estate and Effects of the
said deceased according to Law. And in her default,
we bind ourselves, and each of us, for the
whole, our Heirs, Executors, and Administrators, to be answerable
and responsible to the said Court
and to all parties interested in the said Estate and Effects, or
the Administration thereof in the place
and stead of the said Margaret
Quiggin.
Witness our subscriptions, this 16thday
of April in the Year of our Lord
One Thousand Eight Hundred and Sixty Nine.
