Doughboy Giggle-Off Contest and T-Shirt - A new contest was announced today! It is the 1998 Doughboy Giggle-Off Contest. To enter, you call 1-888-WE-GIGGLE and record your giggle. The grand prize winner gets $50,000. The contest began today and runs through 5/30/98. Certificates with the rules and further details can be found at your local grocery store. The contest also includes an offer for a giggle-off t-shirt. When you poke the Doughboy, the t-shirt giggles! To get the t-shirt, you need to send in 4 UPC's from refrigerated products, dessert mixes, frosting or Toaster Strudel and $16.49. It appears you can buy more than one t-shirt. The offer expires 7/30/98. I found the mail-in coupon in the cake mix aisle. Another collector found the coupon by the refrigerated cookie dough. If you missed the premium offer you can now purchase this t-shirt from Pillsbury's On-line store at http://shop.pillsbury.com/store/store.html
Doughboy Beanie Premium Offer - In the Sunday coupon section this weekend, there was another premium offer for the Doughboy Beanie Doll. This time the beanie is being offered along with an Oscar Mayer Wienerwhistle. You need to send $2.99 plus three proofs of purchase - 2 Pillsbury crescent rolls and 1 package of Oscar Mayer hot dogs. The offer expires July 31, 1998. In case you missed the other offers for the beanie or just want to get another one, here's your chance. I just loved the picture in the ad - the Doughboy driving the Weinermobile!
Baker's Series Items - It looks like Lechter's is starting to get the new baker's series items. I've heard from one collector that her local store had the new Doughboy "cookies" salt and pepper shakers. No information on the price. My local Lechter's hasn't gotten them in, but they do have a large display of doughboy items which include the teapot, linens, cookie jar, mug and hand up ceramics.
New Doughboy Vinyl Placemats - Vinyl placemats are now available that match the other linens from Lechter's and Kohl's. They look like the cloth placemats and have the Doughboy holding at spoon in one hand and a spatula in the other hand. They are being sold at Garden Ridge for $0.97.
New Baker's Series Teapot - A new teapot is now available. This is the first item I've found in the new "Baker's Series" made by Benjamin and Medwin. It is rumored that the Baker's Series will include a salt and pepper set, cookie jar, spoon rest and napkin holder. All items in this series will have the Doughboy holding a plate of cookies. This teapot is similar to the one available last year. The differences are the plate of cookies and the older teapot used the Doughboy's arms as the handle and spout. I found this at Lechter's and the price was $16.99.
Doughboy T-Shirts and Sweatshirt - Here's some t-shirts and a sweatshirt I recently found at We're Entertainment. I'm not sure if they're new but I haven't seen them before so I thought I would still display them. The first t-shirt shown below is navy with a 3D "plush" or "heavy rubber" Doughboy. The design doesn't show up well in the picture. The second t-shirt is white with the Doughboy slam-dunking a chocolate chip cookie in a tall glass of milk. Each shirt was priced at $13.99. The sweatshirt is also navy and has the standard Doughboy. I couldn't pass it up since it was only $9.99.
New Doughboy Mug - This is the "chorus line" Doughboy mug. I purchased mine a while back, but Lechter's is now carrying it. The mug is made by Benjamin and Medwin and is dated 1996 on the bottom. It has six doughboys on a blue background. The price was $3.99.
New Sprout Pen - There is a new Sprout pen available at Spencer's. It's light green, has a twist off top and many sprouts in various poses. The price was $2.99.
New White Doughboy Utensil Crock - Lechter's now carries a white ceramic Doughboy utensil crock. The style of the new one is similar to the previous biege colored crock. The white color of the new crock makes it a closer match to the color of the items in the hand-up series. This new crock is also made by Benjamin & Medwin and is still priced at $9.99. It has more pronounced doughboys and the blue paint is brighter and clearer. The picture below shows the first biege crock on the left and the new white crock on the right.
Embroidered Doughboy Pot Holder and Oven Mitt - Kohl's is selling a Doughboy pot holder and oven mitt. The color of the mits is a blue and gray check with an embroidered Doughboy holding a fork in one hand and a spoon in the other. These items match the other kitchen linens. The price for the pot holder is $6.49 and the price for the oven mitt is $8.99. Both are made by Barth & Dreyfuss of California.
Sprout Iron-On Patch - A Sprout iron-on patch is available at Spencer's. The price was $2.99. The patch is stapled on a black card similar to the Doughboy patches.
New Doughboy Magnet Set - I found a new set of Doughboy magnets at Spencer's. The set of two magnets includes the older version of the Doughboy and a newer version with his hands up. It is made by Benjamin & Medwin and the price was $5.99.
Doughboy Apron, Tie Towel and Wash Cloth - Other collectors have found more items with the new design at a store called Garden Ridge. An apron, tie towel and wash cloth are also available that match the rug, placemats and potholders found at Lechter's. The apron is $14.97, the tie towel is $4.97 and the wash cloth is $2.97.
Doughboy Beanie Baby Premium - The beanie doll offered as a premium last year is available again. The offer is on Pillsbury bread and requires 3 UPC's and $2.00. The offer expires on May 31, 1998. I haven't seen this as Pillsbury bread is not sold in my area.
Wal Mart Watches - Several new watches are available at Wal Mart.
There are 6 different Doughboy watches and 2 each of Sprout and Green Giant.
The price for each is $12.82. All are in a plastic triangle package with
a picture of the character on the left and the watch on the right. The
first Doughboy watch has Poppin Fresh with cupcake cups on a blue face
and the band is blue "leather" with an embossed Doughboy. The
second Doughboy watch has a blue outline of the Doughboy at 12, 3, 6, and
9 o'clock and the band is blue plastic with white Doughboys. The third
Doughboy watch has Poppin Fresh with a light blue heart and the band is
blue "leather" with embossed hearts. The fourth Doughboy watch
is a smaller version of the third with a blue plastic band with white Doughboys.
The fifth Doughboy watch has a blue star with Poppin Fresh and the band
is blue "leather" with embossed Doughboys. The sixth Doughboy
watch is Poppin Fresh next to the Pillsbury emblem and the band is blue
plastic with white Doughboys. The first Green Giant watch has the Giant
standing with the words Green Giant behind him and the band is green plastic
with the Giant standing. The second Green Giant watch has the Giant from
the waist up and the band is green plastic with white circles of the Green
Giant. The first Sprout watch has Sprout in a field and has a green plastic
band. The second Sprout watch has Sprout in a pea pod and the band is green
plastic. Some of the watches have large faces and some have small faces.
All the watches are manufactured by Nelsonic and marketed by Wal Mart stores
and are dated 1997. If anyone finds different ones, let me know!

Doughboy Kitchen Items: Lechter's is starting to carry a bigger selection of Doughboy items. They now have a pot holder, oven mitt, dish towel, placemat and rug. The Doughboy is holding a wooden spoon in one hand and a spatula in the other. The colors are blue, white and tan. Each item is similar in design with various kitchen items: bowls, utensils and oven mitts. Prices were as follows: oven mitt - $4.99, dish towel - $3.99, pot holder - $2.99, placemat - $3.99, and rug - $9.99. All items were manufactured by Barth & Dreyfuss of California and have a tag with the Doughboy on it except the rug; it was manufactured by Glenoit.
