Politics - what a touchy subject. I don't let politics come between my friends and I, and I believe many issues have 2 or more sides... But I do have definite ideas and and values that I don't think I will be changing. In other words, I do not apologize for my beliefs!
I am what some call a mean-spirited Republican. I'm not sure what they mean by mean spirited, unless that is how they view people who say "no" or "I disagree with you" once in a while. I believe that Liberalism as defined by people like Dick Gephart is a destructive and self-defeating philosophy to follow. Conservatism, while far from perfect, has the sense to take a step back and look at a situation with logic rather than emotion.
Conservative politics is not a spectator sport. One reason that Liberalism has become ingrained into our society is that Liberals are willing to take action to see that their agenda is heard and becomes enacted. Therefore, if you are a conservative and want to make a difference, you need to be as willing as your counterparts are to see that you are heard. This can be as simple as writing a letter to the editor.
Intolerance: One ironic observation I have made is that some who complain loudest about intolerance show alarming streaks of (surprise) intolerance. The most important thing I have learned is "Don't take life too seriously, you're not going to get out of it alive".
