"Something has crept, or has been driven out of dark waters under the mountains."
Probably the best science fiction/fantasy I have read is J.R.R. Tolkien's Lord
of the Rings series. It can be read over and over again, and does not seem to
lose anything the second or third (and so-on) time. They are heavier reading
than The Hobbit, but well worth it.
Other favourite authors include Larry Niven (Ringworld, Known Space series)
and Diane Duane (Star Trek novels). Most of the science fiction I enjoy is
rooted in the future, with the exception of Tolkien, of course. In fact,
I find myself wishing I lived in Middle-Earth, with
a trusty shield and broadsword at my side.
Some of my favorite sci fi books:
- The Lord of the Rings series (J.R.R. Tolkien)
- The Integral Trees (Larry Niven)
- The Smoke Ring (Larry Niven)
- Ringworld (Larry Niven)
- Crashlander (Larry Niven)
- Farnham's Freehold (Robert Heinlein)
- The Mountains of Madness (H.P. Lovecraft)
Coming Soon: The Life of Sauron:
Sauron is one of the most interesting characters in Tolkiens Lord of the Rings
trilogy. Although he is the antagoninst of the series, not much is revealed
about him. Therefore, I've pieced together his history (what do you mean, "don't
you have better things to do?").
