 Father: Jerry Cantrell Sr. nicknamed "The Rooster"- was in Vietnam when Jerry was born. Mother: Gloria Jean Cantrell- played the piano, died right before Jerry's major break as a musician Jerry started playing guitar a little around the age of 11. He did not seriously start playing until the age of 17. Playing for various garage bands in Seattle, he got to know Mike Starr who would become the original bassist for Alice in Chains. At a party, Jerry met Layne who was tiring of the glam scene. The two decided to start a band together. They invited Mike Starr and Mike's friend Sean into the band and formed the well known group.   |
