System Renderings & Images

The images contained here are renerings depicting systems that I have worked on.  Some of the systems were proprietry in nature.  In the renderings, I  made them generic, yet still depicting the functionalty of the original system.

Visual Guidance System for the Laser Welding of Bellows Seams

The system provides automated visual guidance and tracking for laser welding of bellows seams. The totally automated system accepts bellows assembles mounted on a mandrel. It then move to the fist seam, and visually determines the contour of the seam in both X & Y coordinates. This data is fed to the integrated motion control module. The motion control module controls the laser output and 5 axis positioning system to laser weld each of the bellows seams. To accomplish this task, the system was required to be capable of following the contour to 0.002" and a speed of 200 inches per minute. This one system was capable of producing the same output as 30 manual operators.

Dimensional Measurement System for Automotive Airbag Diffusers

This on line system measured seventeen critical dimensions on airbag diffusers. The system utilized both digital and analog camera technology to determine the accurate measurements of both Two and Three Dimensional contours. The system relied on multiple lighting strategies and image acquisition techniques.

Three-Dimensional Profile Measurement System for Railroad Rails

On-line system for 3-dimensional profile measurements of railroad rails to an accuracy of 0.010" at a line speed of one hundred and eighty (180) feet per minute. Eight (8) laser line generators produce a structured light profile line around the rail. Ten (10) cameras acquire images of the laser line profile. The profile images are calculated and translated into 3-dimensional coordinates. The dimensional coordinates are reconstructed in computer memory to produce the a complete 3-dimensional profile of the rail. This system could be used to measure the counter of any outward facing surfaces. In the rendering below, the system is inspect an octagon shaped tube.

Defect Detection and Robot Guidance System

This system has been developed for a number of clients in various forms.  Due to the proprietary nature of the work being done by the clients, this image depicts a concept system.  In this depiction of an application for picking up trandomly place objects on a conveyor belt, the camera is used for both part inspection and location reporting.  The system can be used on both continuous motion and indexed applications.

Gauging Camera Stand

This stand was develped as a concept, to make masurments on photogrphic plates.  The user places a plate for verification under the cameras, presses a button and the plate is accepted or rejected by the system.  This vision was accurate to 0.0001".
