Paul Mathews is a physicist by education, an engineer by experience, and a hack statistician out of necessity. He holds a BS in Physics from Miami University (Ohio) and an MS in Physics from Case Western Reserve University. He worked for General Electric Lighting for 12 years as a high intensity discharge lamp design engineer and optical thin film designer. He was an Assistant Professor at Lakeland Community College for five years where he was responsible for the Quality Engineering Technology program. Since 1998 he has provided quality engineering and applied statistical training and consulting services for R&D, product, process and manufacturing engineering organizations as an independent consultant. His customers are GE Lighting, STERIS, Royal/Dirt Devil, Biomec Inc., Swagelok, Lakeland Community College, and other local companies. Paul is an ASQ Certified Quality Engineer and holds nine
patents. In 2002, Paul won the Best Technical Instructor award from the Cleveland Technical Societies Council. In his free time he and his wife Kathy race and cruise their sailboat Whitehawk on Lake Erie.
