Chebyshev's Theorem

PGMathews, November 10, 1998 Revision 1.1

Abstract: Chebyshev's Theorem constrains how measurement data are distributed about their mean. It provides a prediction for the fraction of a population that falls within a specified number of standard deviations of the mean. Unlike the normal distribution and other probability distributions Chebyshev is very general and does not require that any special conditions or requirements are satisfied. Examples of setting specifications and estimating the process fraction defective with Chebyshev are presented.
