GREETINGS!Briefly I am a person of many interests. Bonsai and I am a BAR. There is also interest in Scotch history, music and literature...some things Irish, beer and wine as well as an occasional good cigar or two.
My interest in bonsai began too long ago to remember. I now teach it to beginners, do workshops and demos and have a pretty nice collection going. Bob Grealish and I have a very nice area that we share to grow hardy trees on, in. Pictures of that area are in my bonsai stuff. Our 'field of dreams' also provides us with a source of cuttings to grow on, these are rooted in the Nearing frame. Most of the species that we use for cutting stock are of the 'hard to find' variety, most of these trees were cheap and ugly, by keeping them in the ground we re-shape and refine them while taking cuttings for propigation. It's sort of an endless circle!
The videotape was produced to help beginners in the hobby of bonsai, as things progress I want to continue to produce more tapes in this 'how-to' area. You can visit this area and see what's new there as time passes.
What's a BAR? That's a born again rocketeer, this hobby re-surfaced three years ago with an old Estes V-2. Since re-entering the hobby I've done a lot of things that I was trying to do when NASA was beginning to blow things up at the Cape. That's when I was playing with match heads and micro-grain (I don't even like to think about that now)!
I have graduated from the Estes stuff into High Power rocketry but I still fly a little competion and launch some small things at the club field. I enjoy designing and building (scratch-building) my own designs, most of them fly very well. I finally built a 35mm camera payload that looks back during launch then out after seperation (take a ride on my 'Brutus'). The next project is a super 8 movie camera for a 4" payload. I got hooked on Crayon rockets, have built about 8 of all sizes in the past year. The most awsome was the 'Ultimate Crayon from Hell'! 7 1/2 feet long, 5.5" dia, 14.5 lbs.
I am a member of the Pittsburgh Space Command and am involved in the Dragon's Fire Project that four of us are working on at present. There will be a page added in the future for project news and updates. Dragon's Fire is BIG, 2-stage that should top out at around 22' with a very nice multi-payload. Tim Zebrat is doing the design work on the onboard computer that will handle just about everything during the flight.
I hope that you enjoy your stay here and visit once in a while.
This site will be maintained by Tim Ryan, he did a bangup job of setting it up and tells me that it's easy......if you know how. He knows how...Thanks Tim!
