This is a young Juniper 'pro-nana' in a 1
gal. pot that I've worked for the past 2 years. It's been pinched and pruned
as heavily as I dare every spring and summer. I don't have one this small
(12" of total plant) and just want one. It should be ready for it's Don
Gould pot this spring. |
This False Cypress came from the field of Lynn Porter about 3 years
ago then to me thru Bob Grealish. It had no roots at all and was
growing in Lynns' 'concrete soil' from the field. It's spent 2
years in this large flat re-growing some roots as well as some
foliage. Although refusing to budd-back along the branches, it has
remained very healthy throughout. The top was ugly (Jinned it), the
branches need pulled down and spread out to make 'pads' and add
interest to the tree. With the very heavy (3 1/2") 'foot' and
the 'nasty' roots, it seemed a waste to just trash the tree. There
is a lot of work that needs done to improve it, as Keith Scott
said, "sometimes you just 'gotta take what you have and make
the best of it". I will try in a few years because Lynn tried
for all of the ones before. We'll see what happens! |
Serissa from the spring weekend......... what can I say (looks pretty
good for a 1 year effort). This serissa had everything done to it in one day
and survived. It's only 12" tall but has a 1 3/4" base with some
trunk movement that makes it her good first tree. With some more work this
winter, a little food and pruning, some wire from time to time, love and
care.............. it can be put in the display of the PBS next spring! |
Rheingold arborvitae, about 10 years old, from nursery stock, container grown
all of it's life. My only Rheingold. It was ugly as a mud fence (triple
trunk), went through a workshop last spring and then the mites got it good!
The two lower branches were killed instantly then several applications of
spray sent them to a few other nice trees that they decimated in days! The
tree is about 22" high with a 1 1/2" cal. trunk, some nice movement
and the ramification is coming along pretty well. Has some very nice surface
roots too! Should be in a nice pot in a year or two. |
