Casual Sex? (1988)

Casual Sex?

Melissa and Stacy (Victoria Jackson and Lea Thompson) have each had their share of disappointing relationships. Melissa was dumped by her fiance three weeks before their wedding. Self-conscious about her weight, she doesn't believe she will find a man who'll love her no matter what. Stacy has a list of ex-lovers a mile long, and the fear of HIV to go along with it. When the era of "safe sex" begins, Stacy decides to distance herself from men for awhile.

When these two best friends take a vacation at a health spa for singles, they discover that love is not that hard to find. All they have to do is look for it in the strangest of places.

"Casual Sex?" is a very charming movie. The characters are sympathetic and seem very real. I especially liked the scenes where Stacy and Melissa speak right to the audience ("breaking the fourth wall", as it's called). You get to find out how they are really feeling about what's going on in their lives.

Andrew Dice Clay has got to be the best part of the movie. His portrayal of "The Vin Man" is funny and touching. He plays a greasy chauvinist pig, but you can't help but like him.

Don't be misled by the title! While in "Casual Sex?" there are discussions about casual sex, it's advantages and it's drawbacks, it's not a dirty movie (sorry, if that's what you were going for). The film is basically a comedy about two women searching for true love. Hope I didn't bum you out.
