Monty Capoletti (Rodney Dangerfield) is a boozing, gambling, family man. While he thinks he has the perfect life, his mother-in-law (Geraldine Fitzgerald) believes otherwise. After his mother-in-law is killed in a plane crash, Monty learns he is the sole heir to her estate, an inheritance which equals over ten million dollars. It's all Monty's, but only if he can mend his wild ways within one year.
"Easy Money" is a very "easy" movie to enjoy! The plot is original, and extremely funny. Only Rodney Dangerfield could play the role of Monty, a guy who has a good heart, but not a great deal of willpower.
Joe Pesci plays Monty's best friend, Nicky. Even though he starts out unintentionally hurting Monty's chances of getting the money (by drinking and gambling in front of him), he finally realizes that Monty will only succeed if his friends can become good influences. After all, Monty see, Monty do!
I think the funniest parts of the movie were the scenes where Monty tries to stifle his desires for junk food, alcohol, etc. He badly wants to give in, but his young daughter (Lili Hayden) is always there to stop him before it's too late.
There are a couple of plot twists at the end, but they do not ruin the film. "Easy Money" is really entertaining. I'm sure it will become one of your favorite movies from the 80's. It's certainly one of mine!.
