Prince of Darkness (1987)

Prince of Darkness

For 2000 years, The Brotherhood of Sleep has been the guardian of a terrible secret. Hidden within the basement of an abandoned church rests a glass container filled with an unearthly, swirling green matter.

Believing that technology has advanced enough to study the substance, and sensing that the world is suffering due to its influence, a priest (Donald Pleasence) enlists a group of young scientists to spend the weekend in the old church.

What the scientists learn disobeys all the logic they have been taught to observe in the natural world. They discover that a hideous evil resides within the green matter, and that it has a mission...

"Prince of Darkness" is a movie which I enjoy more and more each time I see it. It has a very smart plot, discussing science and logic. The scariness is there because something is going against all laws of nature. It is more of a psychological horror film, although there is some blood.

Part of the plot has to do with what will happen in the future (1999, to be exact). When certain things happen during the climax of the film, the future appears to have been altered. The ending of the movie leaves everything up in the air, letting you decide what happens next.

Pay attention for Alice Cooper playing a homeless man. He has no speaking lines, but he is certainly bone-chilling!

Also, is it me, or is Jameson Parker's moustache a tad uneven?
