The 'burbs (1989)

The 'burbs

With neighbors like this, who needs enemies?

Ray Peterson decides to take a week off from work in order to relax. When he notices that a creepy new family has moved onto his block, and that his elderly neighbor, Walter, has disappeared, Ray believes the two circumstances are related. Along with his buddy, Art (Rick Ducommun), he sets out to find out what is going on in the 'burbs.

This movie is simply awful. It is dark, unfunny, and unnecessary. Just when you think you know who the good guys are, the plot betrays you.

The waste of such wonderful actors' time creating this movie agitates me. Who knows what great movies could have been made in the place of "The 'burbs". Thank heavens that "Philadelphia" was not being cast at the same time. What a shame to think that Tom Hanks would've been previously engaged in this piece of garbage.
