Why am I such a gear junkie? When I ran my studio (a long time ago), it was valuable to have as many weapons in the arsenal as possible -- so when the client said "hey, what if we had a (fill in piece of obscure gear)?" or "My (antique drum machine) just crapped out", we at least had a Plan B. Keeping the creative vibe going is an important job skill on par with knowing which mic to use on a vocal track. Or perhaps it's just a lame rationalization on my part -- who knows?
