The Soggy Camping Trip

So, we thought it'd be a great idea if we gathered a group of old college friends together to head off into the wilderness of Maumee Bay State Park and have ourselves a little camping trip. It seemed like a great idea, but it rained practically the entire freaking weekend! Ahh, well, we still had plenty of fun.

The whole group. From left to right, front row is Shelly, Sarah, and Kelly. Back row is Jeremy, Adrian, Matt, and Paul.
Adrian and Shelly's tent. Because they had no tent, Matt and Sarah also slept in there, which made for a cozy, but not intolerable sleeping arrangement. Paul's to the left, unpacking his car.
Paul and Kelly's tent. A much smaller thing than Adrian's 6 person behemoth, but it still gets the job done well enough. Shelly's to the right, supervising.
Jeremy's tent. He has a 3 person tent, but wouldn't share. Ahh, well that is fine.
Jeremy's tent after Sarah decorated it. She has a tradition of decorating Jeremy's dorm room every year for his birthday. This year, it's his tent.
And how did Jeremy get rid of the balloons? By throwing them in the fire, of course. How else?
We tried to set up a tarp as a rainfly, but the silly thing kept blowing over, so we finally just gave up and turned it into a leanto. It stopped the rain a little bit, so it was better than nothing.
We were having problems getting a nice fire going, due to the sogginess of the ground and the wood.
So let's add a little lighter fluid...
Not big enough, let's add a little more...
Now THAT's a fire! It's almost bigger than Matt.
Here's Matt taking care of the firewood. He's a lumberjack and he's okay.
The ever-present rain. It made it a little tricky to cook dinner. The chicken still turned out great, though.
The food still cooked okay. Here's Paul enjoying a nice quick bite to eat.
We decided to do breakfast at the picnic pavillion. It was easier to spread out there, and it was dry too.
Friday evening we all hid in my big tent playing Uno and Tribond.
We spent Saturday evening at the pavillion. It gave us a lot more room than hiding in the tent.
Hanging out on the rocks by Lake Erie during the all-too-brief sunny Saturday afternoon.
Cooking lunch that same sunny afternoon.
Sarah, Matt, and Jeremy sitting around the fire.
Adrian, Shelly, Paul, and Kelly hanging out by the canopy.
