Shelly's First Quilting Adventure

Before Shelly and I were married back in 1998, I told her that she should find herself a hobby so that she wouldn't bother me to do stuff with her and I would have more time to do things like play games and work on Lego projects. She answered the call by deciding to take up quilting. Her first quilting project wasn't just any old quilt, though. It is a magnificent piece of work that took about 18 months to complete. The entire quilt was hand pieced and hand quilted, and measures 115 inches by 96 inches. Talk about a trial by fire! We're going to have to buy ourselves and awfully big bed to fit this thing.

This view highlights the massiveness of the piece. It takes up the entire dining room floor! You can see here that it has a Lone Star center with two borders, surrounded by a log cabin motif, finished up with two more borders, all in complimentary shades of blue, green, red, gray and white.

Here is a closeup of the Log Cabin squares and the outer border. You can see the the piecing and quilting detail here.

Here is a detail of the amazing Lone Star pattern in the center. Note the circular quilting detail in the white squares.

Shelly's next project is on a decidedly smaller scale. It's a baby quilt for her sister Mindi, who is expecting her first child in August. Pictures of it will be posted when it's completed.
