www.pureearthorganic.com should work most of the time, but currently it may or may not, and that is why we have our backup site up and running.Hello,
My name is Troy and I run an Organic Farm in Pennsylvania.
We call it the
Pure Earth Organic Farm, and we have been in business since 1993.----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Organic Garlic is our Primary Crop.
We also produce Fruit, Hay, Vegetables, Herbs, Wild-Crafted Crops, Christmas Trees, and some Ornamentals.

The Farm
Our Farming operations started out in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, not far from the city of Pittsburgh. We started out with just a small market garden in Kirwan Heights, Collier Township, and then grew to 30 acres of leased land, also in Collier Township. Now our operation has moved, two hours North of the Pittsburgh Area, to Richmond Township, Crawford County on 85 acres of land that has been in my Wife's family since 1940. Of that 85 acres, approx. 25 acres are tillable, and the remaining 60 is wooded. We use the forest land for lumber, firewood and agroforestry crops.
Organic simply means . . . farming in a way that improves the health of the soil and the surrounding environment, without synthetic or chemical inputs. Similar to the way your Great-Great Grandparents may have done it.
The Organic "NO NOs:" No Herbicides, No Synthetic Pesticides, No Fungicides, No Synthetic Fertilizers, No Sewage Sludge and No Treated or Genetically Engineered Seeds. Also, Organically Grown seeds are required.
To become certified, one must follow the new federal organic rules, and must have an absence of all those above listed "NO NOs" for a minimum of three years.
Our farm is certified organic by OCIA International and we meet all the standards of the new USDA Organic Law.
Our Operation

Our primary crop for sale is
Garlic. Our main variety of garlic that we sell is a stiff-neck (Rocambole) known as Pennsylvania Extra Hearty. This is our own variety that we have developed over the years, and it originally came from a strain of German Extra Hearty. In my opinion, this is one of the finest tasting, easiest to peel, and best storing, of all the varieties that I've ever tried.
We also grow about 10-15 acres of organic hay, which we usually put back into the soil as mulch for the garlic. If we have a good harvest, we sometimes sell it as mulch hay.
You can purchase our garlic, hay and produce from the farm by appointment only - Please call or e-mail for details.
We also hope to be selling our Garlic from August - October, at the Meadville Market House on Saturdays.
You can also purchase our products in season, from the Whole Foods Co-op in Erie, and the East End Food Co-op in Pittsburgh - See links below for these two stores.
We welcome wholesale and special orders, and home delivery is available if you wish to pay for transportation costs.
We will also do mail order if you really, really, really want our garlic, but you should buy locally if possible. Local food is better for you, and it helps our your local economy, and is better for the environment by reducing transportation waste.
Help support Organic Agriculture in your area by purchasing locally Grown Organic Produce from Family Farms! I also recommend purchasing from local non-organic farms also, because buying local helps to build a healthy community.
Send us some e-mail (See Below) for more information or answers to questions you may have.
